The Rockford Files - Another filming location stumper SOLVED! Thanks to the kind folks at West Coast Escrow!

Thanks to the kind people at West Coast Escrow for giving me the answer to a real filming location stumper for me. The reason I was really throw off track was the filming of this scene was actually done at two totally different locations but the scene appeared as it was one location.

In the below two images Jim Rockford pulls into a gas station and uses the pay phone to call the police. Jim is being tailed by the two guys in the second photo. Jim Rockford calls the police and says his car was just stolen and gives the police the license plate and description of the car that is following him. Jim does that so the police pull the tail car over and Jim makes good his escape from being followed.

After this phone call Jim pulls out of this gas station and then is immediately on 5th Ave in the old Downtown area of Los Angeles. Little did I know that the gas station they used for the beginning of this scene was not even close to Downtown Los Angeles. But that is what Hollywood is all about, the magic with the camera!

The Answer:

That was our office and we were there from 1968 to 1994. The address was 7569 S. Sepulveda, Westchester CA. The address was a bit misleading because the office fronted on 77th street about 100 or so feet off Sepulveda.

April 12th - Happy Birthday to the star of the Rockford Files TV Series - James Garner - It's Jim's 84th Birthday!

James Garner (born James Scott Bumgarner; April 7, 1928) is an American film and television actor, one of the first Hollywood actors to excel in both media. He has starred in several television series spanning a career of more than five decades. These included his roles as Bret Maverick, in the popular 1950s western-comedy series, Maverick; Jim Rockford, in the popular 1970s detective drama, The Rockford Files; and the father of Katey Sagal's character on 8 Simple Rules following the death of John Ritter. He has starred in more than fifty movies, including The Great Escape (1963), Paddy Chayefsky's The Americanization of Emily (1964), Blake Edwards' Victor Victoria (1982), Murphy's Romance (1985), for which he received an Academy Award nomination, and The Notebook (2004). Garner is a Korean War Veteran and a Purple Heart Recipient due to injuries sustained during battle.

The Rockford Files - A drive down Los Angeles' Cahuenga Ave in the 1970's - Pacific Radio - Texaco - Thomas Top And Upholstering

 

In the above four images we can see Rocky and Jim driving Thomas Top and Upholstering which is still located at 1317 North Cahuenga Ave, Los Angeles, CA.

In the above images we can see Rocky and Jim passing a neighborhood Texaco gas station. Back in the 1970's there were many neighborhood gas stations with just a few gas pumps and a stall or two to repair cars. Most small gas stations are now gone, replaced by large gas stations with a dozen or two gas pumps and no service bays for car repairs. This Texaco Gas Station was once located in the 1300 Block of North Cahuenga Ave in Los Angeles, CA. It now appears to be an extra storage building for the above Thomas Top and Upholstering business.

In the above few images we see Jimbo and Rocky passing the building that once housed "Pacific Radio". This building is now a business named "Aspect Ratio" and is located at 1347 North Cahuenga Ave in Los Angeles, CA.

The Rockford Files - Episode: The Battle of Canoga Park (1977) Reidy's Ready Service Gas Station

The above image shows Jim Rockford driving Rocky's pick-up truck to Reidy's Ready Service. The store "Production Machinery" can be seen just across the street from Reidy's Ready Service. The store sign shows the phone number as VI9-3206.  The store is no longer present at 2815 West Burbank Blvd in Burbank, CA but as shown in the image below, the building that once housed "Production Machinery" is still there.

The title of this episode is "The Battle of Canoga Park" but it was actually filmed in Burbank CA and not Canoga Park.

The above image shows Jim Rockford pulling into the Reidy's Ready Service lot located at 2900 Burbank Blvd, Burbank, CA. The name Reidy's was fictitious for the filming of this episode but it was an actual gas station and service center.

The Rockford Files - Episode: Beamer's Last Case (1977) Starring James Whitmore Jr. as Beamer

James Whitmore Jr. plays the nerdy car mechanic who takes over Jim Rockford's identity while Jim is on vacation...Fred Beamer

James Whitmore Jr. has become one of Hollywood's most worked Director, Actor & Producer. His work credits go on forever.

Bibi Besch plays the cheating spouse, Monica Steel, in this episode. Sadly Bibi Besch passed away from breast cancer in 1996 at the young age of 56.

In the above image, Fred Beamer is walking back to his apartment building located at 10729 Acama Street in Los Angeles (North Hollywood).

Jim Rockford can be seen in Rocky's truck sitting behind what is now Motorville Tire Shop at 4165 Lankershim Blvd in Los Angeles, CA. The below image shows that not much has changed in the 35 years since this episode was filmed. Even the "Tires" sign is still there.

Above Two Images: WOW... apartments with a FREEWAY VIEW! Not sure how much of a selling point that is.... But that was the apartment building that Fred Beamer was living at in this Rockford episode. The address of this apartment building is 10729 Acama Street, Los Angeles, CA.

Above Image: It wouldn't be a Rockford Files episode if Jim didn't get into a car chase and smash up his car... but in this case Fred Beamer "borrowed" Jim's car and smashed it up for him. Jim takes his damaged vehicle in this episode to TONY'S GARAGE. This filming location is actually All Valley Auto Body, 4730 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91602. The below image shows how it looks like today.
