Another Filming Location Identified! - The Rockford Files - Episode: Where's Houston (1975) - Safeway Grocery Store with rooftop parking

This Safeway Food Store had rooftop parking. I would guess the store and the building are long gone... I believe this store was located either in or around Burbank, California. Anybody know what locations this was? Thanks!

---------------------------------
Thanks to an anonymous blog viewer we now have 100% confirmation of this filming location. 864 Swarthmore Avenue, Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles, CA 90272... It is now a CVS Drugs with the same rooftop parking area. You can match up the house on the street to both the 1970's photos (ABOVE) and to the 2012 photos (BELOW). Thank you to the person who sent this information in to us!

Thanks to "Kosmo" the actor with the mustache is Del Monroe (1936-2009) - he played "Charlie"

I think this is on Glenoaks Bl. near the Burbank/Glendale line, maybe Western Ave.

I live right around the corner from this CVS. I'll walk by and check but I think this is it. That little spanish-style building across the street from the parking lot exit looks familiar. I'll try to check back and confirm.

These photos are definitely of the present day home of CVS Pharmacy on Swarthmore Ave. in Pacific Palisades.

The small spanish style building across the street from the pharmacy which is visible in the first photo is a resale shop for women's clothing.

I patronize both these stores.

Yep, the Safeway sure looks familiar, from Pacific Palisades. My mom used to shop there all the time. If there was no parking in the regular lot, she'd drive up to the roof. The elevator was extra large to accommodate shoppers with their shopping carts. They had the best selection of "gumball" type machines (candy, prizes, etc) at this Safeway! My friends and I often stopped by on our bikes to get stuff out. The Spanish style building has housed many things, but I principally remember it as Florence Simpson Realty office. Behind it was Paul Horst Painting. And just up from the Spanish style building was building with a courtyard, and for years it held The Book Shelf. Also a great bakery, as I remember. And right across Swarthmore as my school, Palisades Elementary!

Have you any Idea, if rooftop parking is really great, I am sure you will be able to suggest me some other similar Hollywood venues like this for my upcoming party. Please reply as soon as possible. Thanks.

Regarding the two actors in the car wearing suits, the actor with the mustache is Del Monroe, more well-known as Kowalski in the series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

The other actor is Raymond O'Keefe. He has a listing on the aveleyman dot com site. He looks a little different in later years, but scroll down to his Columbo episode and that is how he appears in the Rockford episode "Where's Houston?"

A friend and l were looking at this episode just today. He used to work at the Safeway market and my mom used to shop there. I went in all the time either with her or when l was walking around town with a friend. It was the best place to grow up as the old Palisades was the best!

P.S. Someone in an earlier comment mentioned the courtyard with a bakery. It was the Patio Bakery owned by Martin and Loni from Germany. I used to watch Loni decorate cakes. They had great lion cookies and other goodies. My mom and l used to have coffee there and my parents went there other times as well. Martin would sit and tell great stories.
