The Rockford Files - Episode: Backlash of the Hunter "Old World Restaurant"

Here is another location we need help with.
The Old World Restaurant, most likely in Los Angeles but there is a chance it isn't also.
Anybody remember this place and where it was located???

DING DING DING! We have another place identified by a blog viewer!
Old World Restaurant is now the Red Rock Restaurant located at
8782 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, West Hollywood, CA.
I personally wish to thank the alert viewer who sent us this information!

I lived immediately south of the Old World Restaurant on Palm, which ran north/south and ended at Old World Restaurant in West Hollywood. Tower Records was on the north side of Sunset, diagonally opposite the Old World.

On the south side of Palm, Sunset split into another street, Holloway and ended at La Cienega, a block away.

Where Sunset, Holloway and Palm converged, seen in this image, there was a bar on the corner southwest of the Old World Restaurant. It was diagonal from Old World and directly across the street from Tower Records. There was an 8 unit apartment building next to the bar. I lived upstairs, in the southwest apartment.

The weird thing about this shot: they were not going north on Palm nor east on Holloway. It was a just an inserted shot!

I've noticed this a lot in the first few episodes. They go east and west, jump from West Hollywood to downtown LA to the Valley to the beach and further in a few shots.

Seems like an expensive way to shoot and edit fast moving cars.

I am a native Angeleno. I don't know the whole valley and city, but I recognize some areas. It's fun to try to figure out where they are.

But I gave up cos it makes no sense! Plus they drove so fast and too many street signs are blurred or seen too quickly.

Those were fun times! I often walked to the Whisky and Roxy, easily drove to the Starwood and the Masque. I drove to Hollywood to drop off black and white, plus color film. I shot early punk and lots of rock shows, backstage, parties, and hanging out. But I never photographed venues.

I only ate at the Old World Restaurant a few times. I rarely ate out cos of cost and time. I was too busy living a wild rock n roll lifestyle. Most of us barely ate! But my fave food was their white clam chowder and a hot fudge sundae. That's all I ate, maybe once or twice a year there.

It was frequented by various stars. I saw exercise guru Richard Simmons there. But I wasn’t into photographing mainstream performers. I was only into cutting edge punk.

Thanks for posting this!! I missed most Rockford Files cos I was in college, then busy with punk rock. I rarely saw TV or movies of the 1970s. Too busy making art, going out, documenting early punk.

It's fun to see this cos of the clothes, interiors, cars and street scenes. The show really captures the look of the 1970s. Except of course for early punk.

I worked as a waiter here for 8 years from 1982-1990 when they closed. I waited on many celebs, MJ, Rock Hudson, Cher, Drummer from U2, Sting, Sean Connery, John Stamos, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Jerry Brown, Molly Ringwald, Helena Bonham Carter, just to name a few. The food was organic and great, the owner, Dr. Franks, in his 80's, came in every day to have his fresh squeezed carrot juice. They had the best homemade Belgian waffles around. Crispy and light with great flavor. Never found the same again. I was saddened when the place closed due to money mismanagement. IRS was running the till during it's last days. Many patrons were very saddened and people were trying to figure out a way to save the place. Tower was across the street, and Spagos was up the street from Tower.

I ate there about twice a month for two decades…always an omelet with apple butter and English muffin and of course the best Belgian Waffle on the planet (wish I had recipe or what it was made with). Miss eating on the patio

If anyone is interested...
the opening scenes of this episode are of Santa Monica Blvd between 4th and 6th streets.
It shows the old Pep Boys and Radio Shack stores as well as Victor Barnaba's photo shop.
Much of that area looks totally different now...but there are a number of buildings that are recognizable.
